Britney Pulls Out of the VMA's

Damn, Britney has a way of making everyone around her seem silly for trying to make her look less silly than she actually is. I had only just finished writing about how the pop singer has been keeping a low profile and concentrating more on work rather than on going out to party, and she does it again.

In a surprise (but by now unfortunately trademark) move, Britney somehow managed to be the first former VMA performer before the award ceremony even took place. Remember how the media was all buzzing with speculation as to whether Britney was going to put in an appearance during the big show on September 9th? And remember how it all stopped being a surprise when Criss Angel spilled the beans on dear Brit and admitted he was helping her work a little magic into her act? Well, as far as we're concerned, it was OK to do away with the surprise if it still left us a Britney performance to look forward to – which was going to be sensational anyway, no matter how good or how bad it would have been. But now, in a shocking(ly stupid) move, the pop tart pulled out of what could have been her big comeback. Again. Having a little deja vu here. Help.

The story goes like this. Seems that Britney was supposed to perform in the opening of the VMA's with ex-boyfriend Justin and top selling producer Timbaland. This week, she was supposed to record the single (which Justin wrote apparently just for her) in Virginia Beech with the two, and everything was set for Britney to just fly down and record her part. But guess what – yes, that's right, The Britster pulled out at the last minute, leaving everyone with their mouths hanging open. I mean, come on – Timba and Justin are hot, and Britney couldn't have asked for more attention or better company to start clearing her name and digging herself out of the huge hole she got herself into. And even though Jive, her record label, is sticking by her, they also expressed their regret and surprise when the news came.

A source states "she's looking for a comeback, and this would have not only been a huge hit, but something she could have opened the MTV Video Awards with and really blown everyone away". True. And she messed it up. Also true. But to be honest, I for one can't see why all these people are being so surprised. Personally, I tend to think that the surprise would have been Britney showing up and doing things properly. So the question that begs to be asked is, has Britney lost it completely? Or is she just slowly trying to pull out of the showbiz world altogether? Don't flinch – stranger things have happened, and with the press not missing a chance to try and prove what a lousy person she is, maybe she's got a point. The sad fact is though that she messed up her chance for a clean comeback again, and the rumors say she was already replaced by Madonna, who is going to perform alongside seven time nominated Justin at the opening of the MTV Video Music Awards. Too bad for Britney, but it still sounds like it's going to be a great night.
