Alicia Keys' New Song Sounds Fabulous
04 September, 2007
Alicia Keys has finally picked a date for the release of her new album, "As I Am". The beautiful singer aged 26 had to face a long journey that led her from the 2001 'Songs in A Minor’ to the 2005 "Unplugged" and finally to the material that will hit the market on November 6th this year. It was a very difficult time for the American singer, who faced many crises on both professional and personal level and has managed to emerge stronger, more determined and with a better understanding of herself. Keys admits to pouring much of her struggle for self-acceptance into "As I Am". She confesses to growing tired of projecting an image of "superwoman" to the outer world. "I was always holding up the building. Put it on your shoulders and hold it up, and staple it, glue it. But damn it, sometimes shit has to fall apart", she says. "I can’t be everybody’s savior. Who’s gonna save me?" Also, in the two years' interval between her previous album and the new one, a member of her family fell ill. "To see one so strong become so sick, and having to constantly be faced every day with mortality…It became my responsibility. It really showed me who can stand up when it’s necessary, and who can’t".
The first track from the album that became available to the audience (and that is named "No One") makes that quite clear. It is a mid-tempo ballad that proves that the singer has worked hard on refining her message and on leaving her fans enough space to find themselves too in her tracks. The message is clear, her voice sounds great and there are some amazing vocals in there that make us all fell that November 6th couldn't come too soon. Listen to the song and give us your thoughts. I, for one, believe it's a really strong statement made in terms of voice and perspective. It shows real artistic maturity, being – in short – a great song.
