Britney Is Very Close to Backing Out of the VMAs

OK, why doesn't this surprise me at all? Could it be because nothing she's been doing lately has made any sense whatsoever? Sources close to the singer report that Britney's got second thoughts about performing in Las Vegas on September 9th, and as a prelude to that she has "100%" decided to back out of the commitment she had made of hosting the grand opening of the new LAX nightclub at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. Why? "Because she just felt like it" says one source. Good for you, girl. Just when I was thinking of closing the shop and canceling my daily musings about just how much more chaotic the former pop diva can get, this piece of news totally made the sun shine again on my street. With those two (or is it three if we actually count that pathetic interrogation into why some "baby boy" abandoned her) new singles out, it looked like Britney was trying at least to find some shred of balance in her life. I almost felt like I wanted her to succeed – actually, I really did, I just had some serious doubts and I was tired of seeing my hopes shattered. Joke. Maybe "tired" is not the best word for this. Just ask one of her (very very few) fans, they'll describe it better for you. The thing is, it really looks like she is doing her best to sabotage herself.
I stopped wondering why, but I do have some more questions. Doesn't she have a manager? Why isn't Jeff Kwatinetz stepping up, taking her by the hand and telling her to honor her commitments? Probably for the obvious reason that she's a loose cannon and no one can actually control her – even less, tell her what to do. I am in fact surprised that someone agreed to pay her for being there and hosting the opening, particularly since the people who own LEX also own the Pure nightclub and we all fondly remember the disaster she caused there on New Year's Eve last year. The fact is, Britney's totally out of control. Her behavior simply doesn't make sense, it's erratic and inconsistent. I mean, if she just wanted to say goodbye to showbiz and just live somewhere far away (hmm...not a bad idea...anyone's got Britney's number?), that would be all right. Really. Only that she's acting as if she wants to come back and still she wants to make a fool of herself (not that I'm complaining) and it ultimately serves no purpose. But if she really is backing out of the VMAs, I'm pretty sure that will be the end of it. No one will ever take her seriously again (not that right now they are) and then...I bet you we'll see the mother of all meltdowns. Not sure I want to be around for that, though.
