Just Take a Look at Britney's Disastrous VMA Performance
11 September, 2007
It was, after all, a matter that could have been easily anticipated but after mature consideration I've reached the conclusion that we were all in denial about just how badly out of shape Britney was. I mean, come on, the woman was out every night before her disastrous performance at the VMAs yesterday evening and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that she didn't put too much effort into practicing. And let me tell you, people would have cut Britney a lot of slack if they had seen at least some interest in delivering. But she didn't – and I think this pretty much marks the end of the former pop princess' musical career. I'm sorry to admit it so publicly, but Timbaland was so right when he stated that Britney's performance wouldn't live up to the standards of the evening. I mean, just take a look at the way she moves around the stage like she's in a coma or something – or maybe still drunk from all the late-night partying she did all week, including the very night before the VMAs, when she hit at least three parties in Vegas. But the fact is, Britney proved one more time to her remaining fans that it's not about personal problems and just having a messy life – it's also about not giving a damn. Because the biggest problem with Britney's so-called comeback performance was that she didn't even try.
It's not a secret anymore that Brit Brit lipsynchs – but last night, she didn't even try to do it properly. Looking more than a little overweight in a revealing sequined bra and hot pants, she just moved from one end of the stage to the other like she was in some sort of trance – with the horde of dancers following her around and trying to hide her no-longer-slim figure from the crowd. Where were the smoke and mirrors? Where was Criss Angel? Where was the Britney who wanted to pull off a spectacular comeback performance to stop all the mean gossip and re-establish herself as a pop queen once again? It was not just very disappointing, it was downright insulting for everybody there – and I suppose over the next days we'll see a lot of people asking for their money back. So, it's official – Britney's career just came full circle and ended right where it once started, at the MTV Video Music Awards. I'm not even sure at this stage what it would take to even make people sit down for five minutes to listen to her sing again – probably a horde of pink elephants dressed in tutus acting as backing vocals. Or something along those lines. Posted by admin at 02:26 PM | View: (114) |
